On November 12, 2024, the UN General Assembly unanimously adopted a resolution titled “Sport as a Driver for Sustainable Development.” The resolution was the result of negotiations led by the Permanent Missions of Monaco and Qatar, co-chairs of the Group of Friends of Sport for Sustainable Development.
This resolution emphasizes the contribution of sports to education, physical and mental health, gender equality, and social inclusion. It highlights the values of peace, tolerance, and respect that sports promote and addresses the issue of corruption in sports.
During the UN General Assembly, Ms. Alyson CALEM-SANGIORGIO, Second Secretary of the Permanent Mission of Monaco, delivered Monaco’s speech, highlighting the unifying power of sports and the importance of partnerships, specifically mentioning the role of the International Olympic Committee.
To commemorate the end of President Thomas BACH’s term, a special meeting and lunch were organized by the Group of Friends of Sport. President BACH addressed the future and discussed the impact of artificial intelligence on the sports industry.
