Full Story:
The 5th meeting of the Grimaldi Historical Sites of Monaco will take place on June 15th and 16th at the Place du Palais princier. Throughout the centuries, the Grimaldi family has established connections and roots in various regions of France and Italy. The Princes of Monaco hold titles such as Duke of Valentinois, Marquis of the Baux, Count of Carladès, Baron of Saint-Lô and Hambye, and Count of Longjumeau, which were acquired through diplomatic agreements and matrimonial alliances. Currently, around 150 sites are linked to the Grimaldi family.
To strengthen the bonds between the former “fiefs” with a shared history with the Principality, H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco regularly visits these municipalities. In 2018, the 1st meeting of the Grimaldi Historical Sites of Monaco, consisting of about ten communities and territories related to the family, was held at the Place du Palais in accordance with the Prince’s wish.
This year, the Federation of Grimaldi Historical Sites of Monaco has invited two French municipalities, Breil-sur-Roya and Bathernay, as well as ten Italian municipalities: Ventimiglia, Olivetta San Michele, Airole, Ripacandida, Campagna, Monteverde, Spinazzola, Poggiorsini, Terlizzi, and Canosa di Puglia.
The event will be focused on conviviality and exchange. Activities for all ages will be offered, including cultural performances, culinary specialties, folk dances, exploration of local artists and traditional crafts, pony rides, square boules, and farm animals.
Each invited site will showcase its historical connections with the Principality and discover its own region and cultural heritage.
One of the highlights of the weekend will be the “Sound & Light” show, taking place on Saturday, June 15th at 10 PM. A projection on the facade of the Palais princier will narrate the history of the links between the invited communities and the Grimaldi Dynasty.
The event is free and open to the public.
