The first meeting of the Steering Committee responsible for organizing Monaco’s presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe took place on Thursday, February 6th, at the Ministry of State. Monaco will assume this presidency for the first time in its history for a duration of six months starting in May 2026.

During the meeting, attended by all Government Departments and the Directorate of Judicial Services, the main outlines and events of this presidency semester were discussed. These events will be shared between Monaco and Strasbourg, the seat of the Council of Europe, and the organization of such an event was also outlined.

Monaco’s presidency will provide an opportunity to showcase shared values with the European institution, such as the ethics of sport, the protection of children’s rights, and the fight against violence against women. The presidency will conclude with the hosting of the Conference of Ministers of Sport of the Council of Europe at the Grimaldi Forum in early November 2026, once again under Monaco’s presidency.
