Full Story:
The Public Interest Archives Consultative Commission (CCAIP), established by the Sovereign Order of March 25, 2021, held its fourth meeting on Tuesday, January 28 at the Ministry of State, under the chairmanship of Jean-Charles CURAU and in the presence of Mr. Marc VASSALLO, Secretary-General of the Government.

The activity report for the year 2024 of the National Archives Preparatory Mission (MPAN) and the Central Service for Archives and Administrative Documentation (SCADA), which is associated with it, was presented to the members of the Commission.

The members of the Commission were able to observe the wide range of actions taken last year by these two entities of the princely government.

Particular emphasis was placed on the significant progress made in terms of training offerings for archivists in the Principality, as well as the collection of private archives on a gratuitous or remunerative basis, digitization, restoration, and inventorying of the preserved collections.

In addition, the recent depositing of a portion of the Council of National Archives’ ancient heritage archives with the MPAN was announced during the meeting. This follows an initial deposit made last year by the Scientific Center of Monaco. These are the first deposits of public archives that do not fall under the Executive, marking an important milestone in the National Archives project. Discussions are underway with other major institutions in the Principality. The purpose of the MPAN and the National Archives project is indeed to go well beyond the archives of the Executive alone, on the principle of a common house open to various producers of archives, especially public ones, from Monaco. These initial deposits are a strong symbol of this collective project.

Beyond the presentation of the activity report, the fruitful discussions addressed various issues, notably the management of municipal archives during a dense presentation by municipal archivists, as well as the necessary articulation between the protection of personal data and heritage archives, particularly in terms of preserving personal data of historical, scientific, statistical value, etc., for future generations.

Several recommendations were adopted by the Commission, including the advancement of modernizing public and semi-public archives.
