The Nouveau Musée National de Monaco (NMNM) has announced the results of its educational program, “Les apprentis collectionneurs,” which was initiated in 2017. The program, supported by SOGEDA (Société pour la Gestion des Droits d’Auteur), involved students presenting and defending their choices before a jury on April 15, 2024.
For its eighth edition, the project engaged art specialty students from the Institution François d’Assise-Nicolas Barré. Guided by their teacher, Laurent Papillon, and Benjamin Laugier, the NMNM’s public relations officer, the students were introduced to contemporary art and the museum’s mission of building a collection throughout the year.
Nineteen students traveled to Paris from April 5 to 7, sponsored by Frédéric Jousset, the president-founder of Art Explora and the 2024 sponsor of the program. During their visit, they conducted research and selected one or more works by the same artist to acquire for the NMNM’s collection, with a budget of €20,000, at the Art Paris fair.
This year’s addition to the NMNM’s collection is a series of works from Katia Kameli’s installation “Le Cantique des oiseaux.” The four pieces were presented by Luna Larit Perrier, a first-year student, and acquired from the 110 Véronique Rieffel gallery.
A special mention was given to Hugo Tarsitano Renzetti, a final-year student, for the quality of his presentation.
The jury consisted of Frédéric Jousset, Francesco Manacorda, director of the Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea (Turin), Philippe Vergne, director of the Fondation Serralves (Porto), and member of the Acquisitions Committee of the NMNM, Célia Bernasconi, chief curator of the NMNM, and Björn Dahlström, director of the NMNM.
