Full Story:
As part of the National Housing Plan for Monégasques, representatives from the Government and the National Council visited the “Villa Carmelha” housing development, now called “A Fighera” (the fig tree). This innovative construction project incorporates wood into its structure and core. The building is a technical feat in terms of construction methods and future operation. The construction process, which did not require the use of cranes, utilized Canadian Upbrella technology and is a first in Europe. The building was constructed with a sort of sarcophagus that covered the construction site and rose floor by floor, providing workers with shelter from the weather and protecting nearby residents from noise, visual disturbances, and dust. The building is a demonstration of environmentally friendly construction and has obtained the Gold level certification for the BD2M® approach. It utilizes a bioclimatic approach, incorporates elements from the demolition of the previous building, uses low-carbon concrete for the infrastructure, and extensively employs wood to minimize carbon footprint. The building is powered by renewable energy sources, connected to the SEAWERGIE network, and equipped with thermal and photovoltaic solar panels on the roof. Additionally, a fuel cell will be used to store excess electrical energy and convert it back into electricity for communal areas. The building consists of 25 apartments, and the recipients have accepted the majority of the units. They will be able to move in soon, concluding the allocations resulting from the Commission’s work. The remaining applications are currently being reviewed and will be decided upon by the end of February 2025.
