Full Story:
From March 24th to April 4th, a Monegasque delegation led by Isabelle Rosabrunetto, Director General of the Department of External Relations and Cooperation, visited Madagascar to meet with local partners, beneficiaries of projects supported by Monegasque cooperation, and Malagasy authorities.

Madagascar has been the primary beneficiary of Monegasque cooperation for 20 years, with about 40 projects in sectors involving the government and civil society. The two countries have had a health agreement since 2016 and a general framework agreement since 2022, signed during the visit of the Counselor-Minister of External Relations and Cooperation. During this visit, the delegation met with Prof. Zely Arivelo Randriamanantany, Minister of Public Health.

The Monegasque delegation visited the island of Sainte-Marie to observe the progress of the national universal health coverage strategy of the Ministry of Public Health, implemented with the support of the World Health Organization.

The delegation traveled to four regions of Madagascar, where over 80% of the population lives below the poverty line, but where civil society demonstrates remarkable resilience and dynamism. The representatives of Monaco appreciated the diversity and quality of the projects supported by the Government of Monaco, including those in the fields of health, food and nutritional security, education, child protection, and local entrepreneurship.

The delegation visited project sites and held work meetings in Antananarivo, the capital, and Fianarantsoa, a city in the highlands, to highlight the actions supported by the Government of Monaco on the island.

Meetings were held with local authorities and partners, including the agricultural consortium FERT/FEKAMA/FIFATA, which works on transitioning to more ecological agriculture, the entrepreneurial hub of the company Miarakap, historical partners such as IECD on hospitality and catering trades, and the Sandrata project supported by Apprentis d’Auteuil, which supports child protection partners. The Monaco Collectif Humanitaire’s pediatric cardiac surgery program is also successfully implemented in the country.

The delegation was welcomed at the Rainier III Preventorium, managed by the Sisters congregation.

Finally, Isabelle Rosabrunetto had the opportunity to spend time with Cyril Juge, the Consul General of Monaco, who also works to support Malagasy youth, as well as the local team of Monegasque cooperation.
