Full Story:
Monaco recently participated as an observer in the 176th session of the FAO Council in Rome. During this session, decisions were made concerning the alarming food insecurity situation in Gaza and the impact of the war in Ukraine on global food security. The FAO is working to address these issues by taking actions to strengthen local food systems. The Council unanimously adopted emergency measures for FAO interventions in crisis contexts, including in Lebanon where the agricultural situation and food security remain deeply concerning. As part of the commemoration of the FAO’s 80th anniversary, the Council agreed to hold informal consultations on organizational reform in the first quarter of 2025, in which Monaco will participate. Monaco also joined several statements by the European Union on global food and agriculture issues and the ongoing and future activities of the FAO. The FAO Council, consisting of 49 rotating members, acts as the executive body of the Organization.
