Full Story:
Monaco’s Jardin Animalier Rainier III is celebrating its 70th anniversary. The animal park, which opened on December 25, 1954, was established by Prince Rainier III, who had a passion for the animal world. Over the years, the park has undergone several expansions and renovations, always prioritizing the well-being of its animals and providing an enjoyable experience for visitors. Now known as the Jardin Animalier Rainier III and supported by Prince Albert II, the park continues to embody Prince Rainier III’s love for fauna and flora. In honor of its anniversary, the team at Jardin Animalier Rainier III shared some images from the park’s early days on social media. Situated on the southern slope of the Rock, the Jardin Animalier Rainier III is home to nearly 300 animals from 60 different species, including exotic birds, turtles, caimans, reptiles, primates, and farm animals. None of these animals have been purchased; they are either donated, abandoned, or seized by customs. When the living conditions are no longer suitable, the animals are transferred to more suitable facilities. Currently, the site is closed for cliff stabilization work.
