Monaco’s commitment to international humanitarian law and the protection of civilian populations during armed conflicts has been reaffirmed by the Principality in the Sixth Committee of the UN General Assembly. During the debate on the status of the Protocols to the Geneva Conventions regarding the protection of civilians, Ms. Daphné LE SON, Deputy Permanent Representative of Monaco to the UN, emphasized Monaco’s dedication to international humanitarian law and called on states to fulfill their obligations in this regard. She highlighted the disproportionate impact of violence against women, children, and people with disabilities and condemned the increase in attacks on the security of journalists and humanitarian workers. Ms. LE SON also mentioned the efforts of the Monaco Government in protecting civilian populations, including the dissemination of international humanitarian law through the Sanremo Institute of International Humanitarian Law and partnerships with organizations such as Handicap International, the Red Cross, UNICEF, WFP, as well as UNHCR and UNRWA.
