Full Story:
Nearly 500 students from Monaco gathered at the Théâtre des Variétés on January 30th to vote for their favorite short film as members of the jury for the Children’s Prize at the “Cinema for Change” Festival, supported by the Government of Monaco. In the evening, students from the Sciences Po Paris Campus in Menton debated and voted for their favorite film for the Student Prize.

The “Cinema for Change” Festival showcases short films from around the world that address the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by the United Nations in 2015. The 14th edition of the festival is being supported by the Government of Monaco in order to raise awareness about international development and solidarity.

Marc Obéron, the festival’s founder, presented the six competing short films for the Children’s Prize to 22 classes from six schools in Monaco. The votes from Monaco’s students will be combined with those of other child jurors from France and seven partner countries of Monaco’s Cooperation (Burkina Faso, Burundi, Madagascar, Mali, Morocco, Mauritania, and Tunisia) to form a jury of over 30,000 students.

In the evening, students from the Sciences Po Paris campus in Menton had the opportunity to participate in the Festival by watching the four pre-selected films for the Student Prize. This activity is part of a partnership agreement between the International Cooperation Directorate and the Campus to raise awareness among students about development issues, human rights, and the fight against poverty worldwide.

The awards ceremony for the “Cinema for Change” Festival will take place on Saturday, April 12th at the Good Planet Foundation in Paris.
