Full Story:
The International Maritime Organization (IMO) will celebrate World Maritime Day on September 26, 2024, with the theme “Navigating to the Future: Safety First!” This year’s event coincides with the 50th anniversary of the adoption of the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS). The theme highlights the importance of maritime safety, security, and environmental protection in the work of the IMO.
As part of the celebrations, Monaco, a member of the IMO, will host a symposium in partnership with the World Meteorological Organization on extreme maritime conditions. Additionally, since 2021, the IMO has invited its member states and organizations to illuminate iconic sites in their countries, such as buildings, ports, and ships, in blue to promote the global theme of the year and raise public awareness of the maritime industry’s contribution.
To showcase its commitment to the sea and the maritime community, Monaco will illuminate the Prince’s Palace and the Yacht Club of Monaco this year. These initiatives aim to support the goals of World Maritime Day and highlight the significance of maritime activities worldwide.
