Diane Van Es, the vice-European champion in the 10,000m, also excelled by establishing a new European record of 14:39 for a European athlete in the 5km race.

Cassandre Beaugrand, the Olympic triathlon champion, finished fourth in the same race with a time of 14:53, breaking the French record.
