On Tuesday, February 18, in the Ice Room of the Prince’s Palace, H.S.H. Prince Albert II presided over the official ceremony for the signing of the commemorative plaque for the World Capital of Sport, in the presence of the highest Monégasque authorities and representatives of the Association of European Capitals of Sport (ACES), marking the designation of the Principality as the World Capital of Sport 2025.

Among those present were Ms. Isabelle Berro-Amadeï, Minister of State ad interim, and Mr. Lionel Beffre, Government Counselor – Minister of the Interior. This official signing of the commemorative plaque symbolizes Monaco’s commitment to the development of sports.

“The sport in the Principality knows how to assert its international influence with talent because a City-State can be a global reference for an ethical, sustainable, open, and committed sport,” emphasized H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince on this occasion. “I firmly believe in the positive and lasting impact of sports values that I strive to convey through the various functions I hold within the Sports Movement and the International Olympic Committee.”

As Counselor – Minister of External Relations and Cooperation, Ms. Berro-Amadeï presented the symbolic flag of ACES to the Sovereign Prince, who immediately entrusted it to Mr. Lionel Beffre, marking the official transfer of the title. The plaque, on the other hand, was presented to Mr. Gianfranco Lupattelli, President of ACES.

Designated as the World Capital of Sport after Sofia (Bulgaria) in 2024, Monaco is being rewarded for its commitment to sports for all, its modern infrastructure, and its support for international competitions. This label will be visible throughout the year in the Principality, on the occasion of events or sports celebrations such as the 40th anniversary of Stade Louis II.
