Full Story:
The Monaco Municipal Council unanimously adopted a “Charter of Ethics for Elected Officials” on December 17th. The charter sets guidelines for elected officials regarding invitations, gifts, and conflicts of interest. Developed by the Commission of Ethics and Internal Regulations, it aims to prevent breaches of integrity and highlight potential criminal offenses in case of non-compliance.
This adoption comes as Mayor Georges Marsan remains under investigation since December 2023 for alleged active corruption, influence peddling, and illegal appropriation of interests. However, the mayor stated that he has nothing to reproach himself for and trusts the justice system.
In another development, the commission responsible for the ethics charter will continue its work in 2025 by creating an internal regulation for the Municipal Council.
