Full Story:
Monaco recently hosted the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s (IUCN) Seahorses, Pipefishes, and Seadragons Specialist Group from November 25 to 28, 2024. This network of researchers from around the world is dedicated to the conservation of these vulnerable marine species, which are often threatened by habitat destruction, overfishing, and illegal trade.
At the invitation of Monaco’s Department of External Relations and Cooperation, 43 experts from 23 countries attended the meeting in person, strengthening the bonds between group members and developing strategies and new initiatives to promote scientific research and raise awareness about these iconic species of marine ecosystems.
This gathering reflects Monaco’s ongoing efforts to preserve vulnerable marine species, particularly seahorses, through collaborations with international projects like the Seahorse Project, led by Dr. Amanda Vincent, a key figure and pioneer in seahorse research.
Monaco, committed to environmental stewardship, provided an ideal platform for bringing together global experts and catalyzing concrete actions in support of marine conservation.
