Full Story:
The Government of Monaco, in collaboration with the municipality, has initiated improvement works to enhance the accessibility of the Monaco cemetery for all visitors. Starting mid-December, construction will commence on a new covered parking area with a capacity of 30 spaces. The aim of these renovations is to facilitate access for people paying their respects to their loved ones.
Since November 25th, the companies commissioned by the Public Works Department have been preparing the site for these works. The objective is to carry out these improvements while ensuring a respectful and peaceful environment for families. Access to the gravesites will be maintained, and the contemplation of each individual will be at the forefront of the Government and municipality’s concerns, as they work together to coordinate the operations.
To preserve the serenity and dignity of the location, construction activities will be interrupted during funerals, and the work areas that may generate noise will be surrounded by sound barriers to minimize disturbances.
Practically, construction vehicles will access the site through specially secured entrances, including the current entrance to the medium-sized parking area and the upper entrance of Avenue Pasteur, where security measures will be implemented.
Additional adjustments will be made to facilitate the movement of all users within the cemetery. Two lift platforms will be installed to meet the needs of individuals with reduced mobility, providing easier and more respectful access for everyone.
To guide visitors, signage will be installed, encouraging the use of the parking area at the lower entrance of the cemetery, on Boulevard Charles III/Cap d’Ail, as well as nearby public parking lots (Salines, Wurtemberg) equipped with elevators for easy access to the levels of Boulevard Charles III and Avenue Pasteur.
Together, the State and the municipality will ensure that these improvement works are carried out with respect for the location and in the best interest of families.
