Résumé:
The article provides a list of public holidays in Monaco for the year 2025 and explains the payment and compensation rules for working on these holidays.
Histoire complète :
Monaco has its own set of national holidays, some of which align with those in France. It should be noted that in Monaco, unlike in France, if New Year’s Day, May 1st (Labor Day), Assumption Day, All Saints’ Day, the Day of the Prince, or Christmas fall on a Sunday, the following Monday is recognized as a legal public holiday.
The official calendar of public holidays in Monaco for 2025 is as follows:
– Wednesday, January 1st: New Year’s Day
– Monday, January 27th: Saint Devote’s Day
– Monday, April 21st: Easter Monday
– Thursday, May 1st: Labor Day
– Thursday, May 29th: Ascension Day
– Monday, June 9th: Whit Monday
– Thursday, June 19th: Corpus Christi
– Friday, August 15th: Assumption Day
– Saturday, November 1st: All Saints’ Day
– Wednesday, November 19th: Day of the Prince
– Monday, December 8th: Immaculate Conception
– Thursday, December 25th: Christmas Day
On these public holidays, employees must be paid for their nonworking time. Those who are paid hourly, daily, or based on their output should receive their lost wages for the holiday. If a public holiday falls on a day when the employee would normally have a day off or on a regularly or partially nonworking day in the company, it should still be paid.
However, the payment for the legal public holiday is only due if the worker was present in the company both the day before and the day after the holiday, except in cases of exceptional absence due to a medically justified accident, illness, or certain family events.
If an employee is required to work on a legal public holiday, they are entitled to receive either an allowance equal to their salary for that day or a paid compensatory rest.
If a public holiday falls during an employee’s paid vacation, it is not counted towards the duration of their vacation.
