The Prince, along with the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation and other private and public donors, pledged a total of $60.8 million over the next five years for marine conservation initiatives in the region. This funding will support countries in their efforts to protect 30% of the Mediterranean by 2030, with 10% designated as strictly protected areas. The Mediterranean’s rich biodiversity is under immense pressure due to climate change, pollution, and unsustainable fishing practices. The funding aims to eliminate harmful activities such as bottom trawling, strengthen existing marine protected areas, and inspire further support from additional donors and partners.
