The Principality of Monaco has a population of 38,367 residents as of December 31, 2023, according to the IMSEE Census Report. This represents a 2.8% increase compared to the previous census in 2016. The population has grown by nearly 8,500 individuals since 1990 and has nearly doubled since 1951. Monte-Carlo is the most populous district, accounting for 21.6% of the population, followed by La Rousse with 20.9%. Monaco Ville is the least populous district with only 1,000 residents, while Larvotto has 2,192 residents. The population of the Condamine, Jardin Exotique, Fontvieille, and Moneghetti districts is relatively similar at around 5,000 residents each. There are slightly more females than males in Monaco, with women representing 50.8% of the population and men representing 49.2%. The age pyramid of Monaco residents is atypical, with a high percentage of individuals aged 45 to 64. In 2023, 15.4% of the population was aged 16 or younger, a 0.5 percentage point increase from 2016. The population remained stable among individuals aged 17 to 34. Out of the 32,138 residents aged 18 and older, over 16,000 were married and over 10,000 were single. The residents of Monaco come from 150 different nationalities. For the first time in many years, Monegasque citizens were the most represented nationality in 2023, with 9,179 individuals, surpassing the French who had 8,473 residents. Italians came in third with 7,515 individuals, followed by the British with 2,870 and the Russians with 1,199. The Swiss and Belgians ranked sixth and seventh with 1,166 and 1,023 residents, respectively. The smallest community was the Japanese with 115 residents. The Italian and French communities experienced a decrease in residents by 657 and 814, respectively. It is important to note that the census did not include the entire population under the age of 18, as residency cards are only issued from the age of 16 onwards.
