Histoire complète :
The New National Museum of Monaco has been offering visits and workshops for people with disabilities for many years. As part of the “AGORA, La place du musée – LAB#3” exhibition at Villa Sauber, which showcases public and mediation programs, the museum’s public service team organized a professional morning of awareness for cultural entities in the Principality on March 20th. Benjamin Laugier, the head of public services, and Coline Matarazzo, the cultural coordinator of NMNM, provided an introductory speech, followed by Lionel Galfré, the Technical Advisor in charge of disability at the Department of Social Affairs and Health, who emphasized the government’s commitment to improving the inclusion of people with disabilities in Monaco. The goal is to provide full access to exhibitions, allowing everyone to experience and understand the artworks regardless of their sensory, motor, or cognitive abilities. The morning session included presentations from four museum partners: Arrimage for visual impairments, AMAPEI for intellectual disabilities, La Roseraie for psychosocial disabilities, and Melahat Zorlu for hearing impairments. The participants also had the opportunity to attend practical workshops focused on visits for the visually and hearing impaired. The purpose of this event was to ensure cultural venues are prepared to welcome people with disabilities, providing them with access to exhibitions and the opportunity to engage with and appreciate the artworks. This event aimed to sensitize cultural professionals and expose them to the challenges and considerations necessary when presenting exhibitions to individuals with visual, hearing, or mental disabilities.
