Monaco’s Participation in the 52nd CFS Session: Addressing Hunger and Global Food Security

Monaco participated in the 52nd session of the Committee on World Food Security, where discussions focused on food security and nutrition, including the alarming situation in Gaza and Sudan, as well as the adoption of recommendations on reducing inequalities and empowering women in the context of food security.

Monaco participated in the 52nd session of the Committee on World Food Security (CFS) in Rome from October 21st to 25th. The session marked the 50th anniversary of the CFS and the 20th anniversary of the adoption of the Voluntary Guidelines to Support the Progressive Realization of the Right to Adequate Food in the Context of National Food Security. The latest annual report on the State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World (SOFI 2024) was presented at the session, estimating that between 713 and 757 million people experienced hunger in 2023. Discussions at the session also highlighted the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and Sudan. Monaco commended the adoption of policy recommendations on reducing inequalities in order to ensure food security and adequate nutrition for all. The delegation held bilateral meetings to explore new partnerships in the Sahel and Middle East regions and with the Minister of Agriculture of the Kingdom of Lesotho. The Monaco delegation was led by Ambassador Anne Eastwood and included representatives from the Directorate of International Cooperation.
