Monaco’s participation in the 31st Ministerial Council Meeting of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) was highlighted by Isabelle BERRO-AMADEÏ, Minister of Government-Councilor for External Relations and Cooperation. The meeting, held in Malta on December 5th and 6th, 2024, revolved around the theme of “Strengthening Resilience, Improving Security” and included over 40 Foreign Ministers. The ongoing war in Ukraine dominated discussions once again.
In her speech, BERRO-AMADEÏ denounced the daily violations of international law and fundamental freedoms in Ukraine and reaffirmed Monaco’s support for vulnerable populations through the funding of multilateral projects. She also emphasized the importance of stability in the Mediterranean region, expressing concerns over the situation in the Middle East.
The Minister praised Malta’s presidency for successfully appointing four key positions within the OSCE: Feridun H. Sinirlioğlu (Turkey) as Secretary-General, Maria Telalian (Greece) as Director of the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, Christophe Kamp (Netherlands) as High Commissioner on National Minorities, and Jan Braathu (Norway) as OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media, each serving a 3-year mandate.
Highlighting that 2025 will mark the 50th anniversary of the Helsinki Final Act, which laid the foundation for the OSCE, BERRO-AMADEÏ reiterated the importance of a multidimensional approach to security.
On the sidelines of the Ministerial Council, the Minister held bilateral meetings with her counterparts from Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Portugal, and Japan to discuss various topics of mutual interest.
