Résumé:
A “5ème Rencontre” event will take place in the Principality of Monaco on June 15th and 16th, bringing together several communities in the region.

Histoire complète :
On June 15th and 16th, the Principality of Monaco will host the “5ème Rencontre” in the square of the Palais in Monaco-Ville. The event will welcome representatives from various municipalities including Breil-sur-Roya, Bathernay, Ventimiglia, Olivetta San Michele, Airole, Ripacandida, Campagna, Monteverde, Spinazzola, Poggiorsini, Terlizzi, and Canosa di Puglia.

Monaco’s history is intertwined with these municipalities. For example, in the 1500s, the King of France appointed Giovanni II Grimaldi, the lord of Monaco, as the governor of Penna and Ventimiglia. Ventimiglia, now a part of Italy, was once governed by the Grimaldi family, and its history is closely connected to that of Monaco. The Grimaldis held territories such as Campagna, Monteverde, Ripacandida, Poggiorsini, Spinazzola, Terlizzi, and Canosa di Puglia, though they lost these territories in 1641 when Monaco broke its alliance with Spain and sought protection from France.

Another noteworthy connection is Imbert de Bastarnay, who was born in the 15th century and served as a diplomat and knight. His descendant, Diane de Poitiers, was a famous figure and is related to Anne, the daughter of François de Bastarnay. Anne married Jean de Daillon and their offspring eventually led to the marriage of Jacques II de Matignon, an ancestor of Prince Albert II of Monaco.

Overall, the Principality of Monaco is hosting the “5ème Rencontre” where different municipalities will come together, highlighting their historical connections and shared heritage with Monaco.
