The 33rd edition of the Rallye Aïcha des Gazelles du Maroc 2024 kicked off in Monaco last Saturday, April 12, with various activities. All the teams were gathered at Espace Fontvieille to celebrate the start of the rally, alongside Prince Albert II.
Among the participants are Manal Faxelle and Armelle Médard, known as “Les Gazelles des Hauts-de-France,” representing the Monaco Liver Disorder association. This is their first time competing together and they are aiming to raise awareness for the monégasque association, which is dedicated to combating rare liver diseases in children under the honorary presidency of Princess Charlène.
Armelle, who works for an airline company in Paris, is participating in the Gazelles Rally for the 12th time, and it’s her third time in the electric category. Manal, a territory manager in Saint-Quentin, is competing in the rally for the fifth time, and it’s her second time in the electric category.
Manal and Armelle first met during the rally two years ago, and their connection grew stronger when they became a duo. They share the same mindset and both have experience in racing. Manal admires Armelle for her dedication and support to the Monaco Liver Disorder association.
Manal has a personal connection to MLD, as her nephew underwent a liver transplant a few years ago. This experience has motivated her to support the association, and she has been an ambassador for MLD for several years.
The rally has also had a profound impact on Armelle. She has become more environmentally conscious and has made changes in her daily life to reduce her carbon footprint. She now exclusively uses electric modes of transportation.
Both women’s children are proud of them, although being away from their families for three weeks is emotionally challenging. The adventure they are embarking on together is a source of motivation for them.
