A famous Dutch professional football player has been sentenced to four months of suspended prison time by the Monaco Criminal Court after being arrested and testing positive for drunk driving in his Rolls-Royce last summer. The incident took place on August 6, 2024, at 5:38 a.m. The Dutch international, on vacation in Monaco as usual, was stopped by the police in Place d’Armes after driving erratically. He was immediately tested and found to have a blood alcohol level of 1.01 grams per liter, which the judge described as “two-thirds of the way to alcohol poisoning.” The former FC Barcelona player was taken to the police station and was reportedly barely able to stand. The prosecution had requested a sentence of two months of suspended prison time, a six-month driving ban in Monaco, and a €2,000 fine. However, the Monaco court found him guilty and sentenced him to four months of suspended prison time, a two-year driving ban in the country, and a €9,000 fine. The defendant was not present at the trial and did not appoint a lawyer to represent him.
