Dr. Jean-Joseph Pastor, co-founder of the Cardio-Thoracic Center of Monaco, has passed away at the age of 93. He opened the center in 1987 with Professor Vincent Dor. Dr. Pastor was not only a renowned cardiologist but also the personal physician of Prince Rainier III from 1975 until his death in 2005.

Despite his age, Dr. Pastor continued to visit the Cardio-Thoracic Center daily, where he had his office. In the 1960s, he also founded the cardiology department at the Princess Grace Hospital (CHPG), which now bears his name.

Dr. Jean-Joseph Pastor was deeply involved in local politics as well. He served as a national councilor from 1968 to 2008 and held the position of vice-president of the Assembly for ten years, demonstrating his dedication to the country. With the passing of Henry Rey earlier in 2025, the Principality has once again lost one of its most loyal servants.
