Italian engineer Carlo Chiti, known for his work at Alfa Romeo and Ferrari, also had an impact in Monaco. Chiti, who was instrumental in designing the first Formula 1 car with a rear engine, worked for both Alfa Romeo and Ferrari before venturing into his own project called ATS. During his time at Ferrari, Chiti’s engines and cars won two Formula 1 world titles. In 1989, after leaving Alfa Romeo, Chiti contributed to making Monaco a car manufacturer by creating the CENTENAIRE V12, the first carbon fiber GT car in the world. This car was built for Monte-Carlo Motorsport and participated in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1993. Chiti’s last creation, the CENTENAIRE, has become a rare collector’s item worth seven figures.
