Since December 1, 2024, the Museum of Prehistoric Anthropology in Monaco has been hosting a captivating exhibition titled “The Butterfly Effect: The Prehistory of Animals.” Running until December 1, 2025, the exhibition explores the impact of biodiversity changes throughout the ages and the significant role of animal species in the evolution of our planet. The collaboration of various experts, including archaeozoologists, ethologists, environmental specialists, and specialized photographers, has contributed to the exhibition. Institutions such as the Donnadieu Foundation, the Terra Amata Museum, the Mercantour Natural Park, the CEPAM Laboratory, and the Lazaret Laboratory have provided their expertise and collections to enrich this initiative. The exhibition showcases animals that populated the Mediterranean region during the Paleolithic and Neolithic periods, presenting remarkable archaeological artifacts. Highlights include the famous Siberian mammoth, a dedicated room for studying the evolution and protection of ibex, statuettes of animals from around the world, and a section dedicated to insects and butterflies, particularly endemic and rare species. Designed to pique the curiosity of visitors of all ages, “The Butterfly Effect” offers workshops, interactive spaces, immersive projections, conferences, and guided tours by specialists in archaeozoology and ethology. The museum is open daily from 9 am to 6 pm, with an entrance fee of 5 euros (2.50 euros for students).
