Histoire complète :
The Principality of Monaco will be one of the prestigious stops for the Olympic Flame, which will reach Paris on July 26th. On June 18th, at 2:15 PM, the Flame will depart from Port Hercule, carried by six relay runners who will take turns until they reach the Palace Square. This will be the second time the Flame passes through Monaco since 1968, during the Winter Olympic Games in Grenoble. Prince Albert II, President of the Monégasque Olympic Committee and member of the International Olympic Committee since 1985, has participated five times as a member of the Monaco bobsleigh team in the Winter Olympics. He first carried the Olympic Flame in 1996 during the Summer Olympics in Atlanta, and has done so on nine other occasions during both the Summer and Winter Games. Princess Charlène, an Olympic swimmer who represented South Africa in the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, has also been involved in promoting sports. Under Prince Albert II’s leadership, numerous initiatives have been undertaken to encourage learning and practicing sports from a young age and to transmit the values of sports. The Monégasque Olympic Committee was established in 1907, and Monaco first participated in the Summer Olympics in 1920. Monaco won its only medal in 1924 at the Paris Olympics, where architect Julien Médecin earned a bronze medal for his stadium project in Fontvieille. Since 1920, Monaco has sent delegations to the Summer Olympics 21 times and to the Winter Olympics 11 times since 1984. [Word Count: 207]
