Monaco and Ostend Celebrate 60 Years of Strong Connections
From October 6th to 8th, a delegation from the Monaco City Hall, led by Camille Svara, First Deputy Mayor, visited Ostend, Belgium, to celebrate the six decades of their twinning agreement, established on January 26th, 1964. This visit, the first since 2008, allowed the officials to discover the evolution of this iconic Belgian city.
The program included official visits and a reception at the City Hall, where the Monégasque representatives signed the guestbook. This trip followed the visit of Silke Beirens and Maxime Donck, Aldermen of Ostend, to Monaco in January of this year. These meetings strengthened the ties between the two cities and fostered concrete collaborations.
The Monaco City Hall delegation in Belgium consisted of Camille Svara, First Deputy Mayor, Jacques Pastor, Karyn Ardisson Salopek, Deputy Mayors, and Nathalie Vaccarezza, Municipal Councilor.
Ostend, located in the Flemish Region of Belgium, in the province of West Flanders, is the first and oldest twinning agreement of the Principality. The two cities not only share a coastal location but also a historical link: the wife of Charles III, mother of Prince Albert I, was of Belgian origin.
This twinning, born after World War II, illustrates the desire for reconciliation and cooperation in Europe.
The marks of this twinning are also visible in Monaco, notably with Avenue Ostend, which connects the Port Hercules to Monte-Carlo. Known for its route during the Formula 1 Grand Prix, it signifies a lively and dynamic connection between the two cities.
The celebration of this 60th anniversary was a significant moment of friendship between Monaco and Ostend, affirming the desire to further strengthen the ties that unite them.
