Résumé:
Inventory operation of groupers and umbrines in the sea of Monaco provides 18 years of data on these populations and the effectiveness of protection measures.

Histoire complète :
The principality of Monaco is known for its efforts to protect marine life, particularly the grouper and croaker fish species. These fish, considered emblematic of the Mediterranean, are endangered in the region. However, Monaco has provided them with protected status since 1993. Recently, the 7th monitoring campaign took place along the entire coast of Monaco, providing 18 years of data on these populations. The Department of the Environment, in collaboration with the Groupe d’Etude du Mérou (GEM), an association with members worldwide, uses specific counting techniques to evaluate the population dynamics and the effectiveness of protection measures. The GEM campaigns ensure comprehensive coverage of the investigated areas by deploying divers in two teams, who advance a few meters apart depending on the site’s topography and visibility conditions.
