Monaco celebrated the 20th anniversary of its accession to the Council of Europe on October 2nd in Strasbourg. The event was attended by Prince Albert II, the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, and other dignitaries. The occasion included discussions about Monaco’s future presidency of the Organization in 2026. A multimedia exhibition highlighting Monaco’s history within the Council of Europe was inaugurated by the Prince, and will be on display throughout October at the Palace of Europe in Strasbourg. The festivities concluded with the unveiling of an artwork titled “Ode to Freedom,” which symbolizes human rights and will be gifted to the Council of Europe. Monaco became the 46th member state of the Council of Europe on October 5, 2004. The organization, founded in 1949, is dedicated to the defense of human rights, the rule of law, and democracy on the continent.
