Résumé:
Monaco and Lucciana have been twinned for 15 years, celebrating their connection through shared traditions and events.
Histoire complète :
Monaco and Lucciana have been twinned since September 26, 2009. The cities are bound by their connection to Sainte Dévote, the Patron Saint of Monaco and the island of Corsica. In 2003, Prince Rainier III and Prince Albert embarked on a pilgrimage to Lucciana, the birthplace of Sainte Dévote, who was martyred and then floated on a boat destined for Monaco.
The twinning ceremony took place on September 26, 2009, with the signing of the twinning agreement by the mayors of Monaco and Lucciana, Joseph Galletti and Georges Marsan, respectively. The national anthems of Monaco and Corsica were performed at the ceremony.
Since then, Monaco and Lucciana have celebrated their twinning in various ways. Every year, a delegation from Lucciana participates in the Sainte Dévote celebrations in Monaco, while Monegasque officials frequently visit Lucciana during Pentecost.
As a mark of their twinning, the jetty at the entrance of Port Hercule was named “Lucciana” in 2009. Additionally, the archaeological site museum on the island was inaugurated by Prince Albert II in 2022 and named the “Prince Rainier III Museum.”
In late 2023, Prince Albert II, the mayor of Monaco, and several elected officials visited Lucciana to explore an exhibition dedicated to the pilgrimage of Prince Rainier III.
The twinning between Monaco and Lucciana is a significant bond that continues to be celebrated, spanning histories, traditions, and religious devotion.
