Histoire complète :
Monaco participated in the 68th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) held in Vienna from September 16 to 20, 2024. The delegation, led by Isabelle Rosabrunetto, the Director General of the Department of External Relations and Cooperation, acknowledged the agency’s efforts in maintaining the safety and security of nuclear facilities, particularly in Ukraine with the deployment of the IAEA’s Support and Assistance Mission in Zaporijia (ISAMZ). Monaco places significant importance on the agency’s activities related to the peaceful use of nuclear science and technology, particularly in the realm of marine environmental protection. Since 1961, Monaco has hosted the IAEA Laboratories, which initially focused on monitoring radioactivity in the sea and its impact on marine life but now encompass a range of activities related to marine environment research, pollution, and climate change. Monaco also expressed support for the IAEA’s efforts to combat marine plastic pollution through the NUTEC Plastics Initiative, with the agency’s marine environment laboratories in Monaco playing a central role. The IAEA aims to establish a network of over 60 laboratories worldwide to effectively monitor plastic pollution in the marine environment and demonstrate the use of ionizing radiation for plastic recycling. The data collected by the IAEA will contribute to the implementation of the Global Treaty against Plastic Pollution. Monaco also reaffirmed its support for the IAEA’s work in cancer screening and treatment through the “Rayons d’espoir” initiative, emphasizing the importance of nuclear technology in human health.[Bullet 9 starts again as new paragraph]
