Résumé:
Carpooling in Monaco is being presented as an alternative to the train system for evening travel, with the government investing in and promoting the use of carpooling as a solution to transportation issues in the region.
Histoire complète :
The Monaco government has invested over €326,000 in carpooling and has already recorded 116,000 carpooling trips in Monaco in 2024. As train travel becomes increasingly complicated in Monaco, carpooling is seen as a welcome alternative. While the government has been holding meetings with SNCF Réseau and the Région PACA to address the train disruptions, a permanent solution is still awaited. Several meetings have already taken place, resulting in minor adjustments to the weekend construction work and saving train services for certain events. Another meeting is scheduled for Friday to discuss alternative scenarios for the construction work. The main focus is on finding a long-term solution. Carpooling offers a free option for passengers as the government covers the cost of the trip and compensates the driver with €1.50 to €3 per trip. If a carpool partner is not available, the government will provide a taxi service to the passenger’s home. This investment has proven successful, with 116,000 carpooling trips already recorded this year, aiming to reduce the number of vehicles crossing the border daily. The government’s objective is to decrease pollution, create a more peaceful city, and enhance social connections. With the successful transfer of users from Klaxit to BlaBlaCar Daily, the carpooling app is expected to become more flexible, allowing users to choose specific routes and drop-off points in the future.
