Histoire complète :
Monaco recently participated in the plenary session of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) held in Glasgow from June 24 to 27. The session, presided over by Lord Eric PICKLES, Special Envoy of the United Kingdom for post-Holocaust issues, assessed the situation in the Middle East eight months after the attacks of October 7, 2023, and discussed the rise of anti-Semitic acts worldwide. The objective was to strengthen the procedures and effectiveness of the IHRA, including the adoption of a Charter for the preservation of sites and the launch of an Archives Access Forum to promote the sharing of best practices among member states. Discussions also focused on the potential threats posed by generative artificial intelligence, which can be used to spread anti-Semitic narratives and disinformation that undermines the memory of the Holocaust. Monaco’s Ambassador to Germany and Representative to the IHRA, His Excellency Mr. Lorenzo RAVANO, highlighted Monaco’s efforts in memory preservation, such as the establishment of the Commission for Assistance to Victims of Spoliation in 2006 and the opening of World War II archives for research purposes since 2020. He also mentioned that H.S.H. Prince Souverain received the Medal of Honor from the International League against Racism and Antisemitism (LICRA) in recognition of His continuous commitment in this area. The Ambassador emphasized the importance of educating students as a means of raising awareness and also mentioned Monaco’s funding of the “Auschwitz. In front of your eyes” program, allowing thousands of European students to take a virtual tour of the camp. The delegation from Monaco will participate in the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz in January 2025. The IHRA is an intergovernmental organization with 35 member countries and 9 observer countries, including Monaco (an observer since 2015), dedicated to government support for education, commemoration, and research on the Holocaust worldwide.
