Fresh off a win against Barcelona in the Trophée Joan Gamper, Monaco continued their winning streak in their first Ligue 1 match. Coach Adi Hütter surprised by starting Breel Embolo and Folarin Balogun upfront, as he did against Barça. Monaco had an early chance to score, with Balogun coming close in the fifth minute. Both teams had goals disallowed for offside, but Minamino eventually broke the deadlock with a superb lob.
