On June 18th, at 14:15, the Principality of Monaco will welcome the Olympic Flame, which will reach Paris on July 26th. The Olympic Flame will pass through Monaco on July 18th. This will be the second time the Flame passes through Monaco, following the 1968 Winter Olympics in Grenoble. H.S.H. Prince Albert II, President of the Monegasque Olympic Committee and member of the International Olympic Committee since 1985, has participated in five Winter Olympic Games as a member of the Monaco bobsleigh team. Prince Albert first carried the Olympic Flame in 1996 at the Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta, United States, and has since carried it on nine more occasions, both in the Summer and Winter Games. H.S.H. Princess Charlene, who is also an Olympic swimmer, represented her home country of South Africa at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. Prince Albert has always been committed to promoting sports and has implemented various initiatives to encourage learning and participation in sports from an early age, as well as to transmit the values of sports. The Monegasque Olympic Committee was established in 1907. Monaco participated in the Summer Olympics for the first time in 1920 and hosted the Women’s Olympics in 1921, demonstrating the country’s ongoing support for the development of sports.
