Full Story:
Prince Albert II of Monaco attended the opening of an exhibition showcasing photographs of businesses and restaurants committed to sustainability in the principality. The exhibition, organized by the Directorate of the Environment, can be viewed for free at the Galerie des Pêcheurs until June 2nd. It showcases the labels and photographs of merchants and restaurateurs who have made a commitment to sustainable consumption.
In 2015, under the guidance of Prince Albert II, the Monaco government set the ambitious goal of achieving zero single-use plastic waste by 2030. To support businesses in this endeavor, the Commerce Engagé label was launched in 2016, followed by the Restaurant Engagé label in 2020.
These voluntary initiatives promote sustainable consumption by prioritizing local products, short supply chains, waste reduction, and responsible resource management. Currently, over 100 businesses in Monaco have been awarded these labels.
The success of the project is based on the personalized support provided by the Directorate of the Environment and the association Ecoscience Provence. They offer technical assistance to merchants and restaurants in adopting good practices in waste management, alternatives to single-use items, energy and water management, and promoting local and ethical consumption.
The objective of this exhibition is to highlight the businesses that have voluntarily committed to these initiatives and to underscore the government’s support and assistance in their implementation for the benefit of the environment.
The exhibition will be open until June 2nd, 2024.
