Monaco and Qatar Unite to Promote Sport as a Vector for Sustainable Development. Monaco and Qatar, co-chairmen of the Friends of Sport Group for Sustainable Development, achieved a small victory when their resolution was unanimously adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on November 12. The resolution, titled “Sport as a Factor for Sustainable Development,” emphasizes the role of sport in promoting education, physical and mental health, gender equality, and social inclusion. It also highlights values such as peace, tolerance, and respect, while addressing the need to combat corruption in sports. Alyson Calem-Sangiorgio, Second Secretary of Monaco’s Permanent Mission to the UN, represented Monaco during the session, emphasizing the unifying power of sports, the importance of partnerships, and the central role of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). In another development, a special meeting and lunch were organized to honor Thomas Bach, whose term as President of the IOC is coming to an end. During the event, Bach discussed the growing impact of artificial intelligence on sports.
