Full Story:
Monaco is actively participating in the 16th Conference of the Parties (COP 16) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) in Cali, Colombia. The delegation from the Principality of Monaco, consisting of representatives from the Department of External Relations and Cooperation and the Department of the Environment, is engaged in discussions on the implementation of the post-2020 global framework for biodiversity. The main goal of COP 16 is to monitor progress in achieving the ambitious objectives of the Kunming/Montreal biodiversity framework, including protecting 30% of land and oceans by 2030, restoring 30% of degraded ecosystems, halving the introduction of invasive species, and reducing pressures on biodiversity such as pollution. During the conference, countries report on their national policies to achieve these objectives and discuss financing and resource mobilization mechanisms to support conservation efforts, particularly in developing countries. Monaco reaffirms its commitment to biodiversity conservation and its desire to contribute to the global efforts to achieve the goals of the framework. The presence of Ms. Caron-Dagioni, Government Counselor and Minister of Equipment, Environment and Urbanism, further emphasizes Monaco’s commitment. She highlights the actions taken by the Government to implement the global framework for biodiversity in Monaco and emphasizes the alignment of these actions with the goals of the framework and the commitments of Prince Albert II on the international stage. This includes the update of the national biodiversity strategy, which aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals.
